Dr. Gallegos is a veteran educator with over 30 years of experience in K–12 education. He has served as a classroom teacher at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, as well as a principal, assistant superintendent, superintendent, and Chief Academic Officer in school districts across Texas and New Mexico.
In 2007, Dr. Gallegos founded Orion High School, one of the earliest fully online schools in the United States. Orion became the first digital school accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has maintained continuous accreditation since its founding. In 2023, Orion joined the first digital school system accredited by the Middle States Commission. Today, Orion serves students from kindergarten through grade twelve and supports learners across the U.S. and around the world, offering more than 250 proprietary digital courses designed specifically for online education.
Dr. Gallegos also served as Senior Project Director for K–12 systems at the University of Texas Charles A. Dana Center, where he worked with major school systems nationwide to strengthen mathematics and science education. His leadership and research continue to influence innovative, high-quality online learning models.
